About This Spot

Japonica Redondo Beach welcomes you into an intimate, unpretentious setting just off the bustling Pacific Coast Highway. It’s the sort of small, quietly vibrant spot where the rhythm slows down a bit, inviting you to settle in close to the sushi bar or among tables that hum softly with easy conversations. The space captures a blend of neighborhood warmth and a thoughtful touch of craft, where the kitchen’s care carries through in every detail.

As you unfold the menu, there’s a sense of discovery woven through familiar ingredients reimagined with a distinct, personal twist. The atmosphere feels genuine—unhurried but alive—where the smoky, house-made soy sauce becomes more than a condiment; it’s part of the story reflected in each bite. From the crispness of freshly prepared gyoza to the layered flavors of uniquely composed rolls and ramen, each dish invites you to linger and tune into the subtle surprises of texture and seasoning.

What lingers long after eating is Jasmine’s thoughtful approach to Japanese cuisine and the quiet attentiveness of the staff, who make even a quick stop feel considered and warm. Whether you’re sharing a casual meal with friends, grabbing a leisurely bite after a day at the beach, or savoring the nuanced tastes with a companion, Japonica offers a humble yet heartfelt invitation to slow down and savor the moment.

Small restaurant on PCH, with tables and a small sushi bar. The staff is friendly and the items we ordered came out quickly. We ordered the gyoza, white lightening roll and Kyoto kryptonite roll. All delicious and very different from other sushi restaurants. The soy sauce they use is made by the owners wife and has a smoky flavor, different and super tasty. You can buy it by the bottle too. Can't wait to try the Ramen on my next visit.

I had heard amazing reviews of this place and I'm SO glad we finally tried it for happy hour! Such an amazing deal for really great sushi. We got the bumblebee roll, which paired perfectly with their signature soy sauce. I think we've found our new favorite!

Came here for a quick sushi fix before heading to the airport, and everything we ordered was off the chain! Super fresh, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. Every roll we tried hit the spot. We also enjoyed the seaweed salad—it had great flavor and texture. I noticed they were handing out complimentary sake shots, which was a nice touch and added to the vibe. They even had a kids menu, which we took advantage of . I’d definitely come back if I’m in LA again!

An experience beyond my expectation. After paddle board, we chose a restaurant based on Dine LA map. At first I thought it was just a good Japan cuisine restaurant, like most of Japanese ones. (For context, we are asian, it's safe to say we have plenty experiences in having asian food haha). We ordered 2 2-person combo, $70 each. It starts to amaze me when bluefin tuna sashimi was served, thick cutted, so fresh, the quality is as good as what we had in Tokyo! What touched me later were the rolls. Not only because of the perfect combination of ingredients, (three kinds of sashimi in one roll), but how subtle the chef treated the food. Even the cucumber/celtuce is cutted and shaped for ultimate taste and texture. We ordered four plates of rolls and all of them were served with different sauces, textures. The only pity is that the food is so delicious that I didn't have time to take photos, We ate every last bite of food. One of my friends even scoop the sauce. It's definitely worth the money!

This is a hip Japanese place with outdoor seating and heaters. This would have been a 5 star, but kitchen could not get our food out all together, for 6 people. The food was fantastic we had everything from bowl, soup, and sushi. Our waiter was very attentive as possible, the place was packed with a line outside. Our family would surely visit again.
